At around this time last year, my friend and I booked our plane tickets for Calgary Stampede.

Little did we know about this event.  Both horse lovers, she a longtime trainer and myself new in the horse world, decided to go have fun in the West.  I had been to a rodeo at the Festival Western de St-Tite the year before and had loved it.

Of course, we wanted to see what Calgary Stampede had to offer.  We were amazed!

Yes it is : The World’s Greatest Outdoor Show!  No waist of time, always something to see and the animation is uplifting.

The participation of young cowboys with their steer and mini cowboys with their miniature horses makes the rodeo a family event everyone should experience at least once in a lifetime.

Chuckwagon races are simply thrilling!  The horses are so fast!

Despite the accidents, these horse lovers, dedicated to winning a race that began 100 years ago, give an outstanding show.

The Grandstand is always full.

Everywhere you go on the site, you can hear bands playing their beautiful music.  You can visit the stables.  My very favourite were the Clydesdales.  Majestic horses!

Having a ticket to the rodeo or the chuckwagon race allowed us to enter the site without paying the entrance fee.

Free horse shows such as : heavy horses, horsemanship, cattle drives and many more were offered.  We attended the Cowboy Up competition and the World Championship of Sheep at the Saddledome, this also free of charge.

What a week!  We even got to see Kate and William at the parade.

People in Calgary are friendly and the food was great.

I truly recommend you do like me and experience Calgary Stampede.  This year is the 100th anniversary.  It’s an event you can’t miss!
